Endy Mattress Canada 2020 – Product Review

Endy Mattress Canada - Product Review

Buying a mattress takes some thought and consideration. It is hard to judge the quality of a mattress based on the manufacturer’s marketing alone – which is why in-depth reviews like this one make for essential reading prior to your purchase.

We have reviewed the Endy Mattress to give you more detail on everything that is important to know about the product, including its specifications, delivery and unboxing, material, firmness, and price.

30-Second Review

The Endy Mattress is one of the leading online mattress brands in Canada. It is all-foam in design, with a streamlined shape and breathable material. It uses its own Endy Foam, a memory foam alternative that is intended to provide optimum firmness without pressure points. The Endy Mattress has changed in design over the past few years, and we will be reviewing the most current product available by the manufacturer.

You will love the Endy Mattress if you:

  • Switch from back to side during your sleep, as Endy provides enough support to absorb body weight in different positions.
  • Sleep predominantly on your back, because the Endy’s medium-firm design is ideal for moulding to a person’s spine and hips without causing misalignment.
  • Prefer a mattress with little to no bounce. The Endy is made from foam and contains no springs, making it good for sinking into without any wobbling.
  • Want a mattress that is sustainably built as the Endy Mattress is GREENGUARD Gold Certified. This means the mattress meets the rigorous standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, and phthalates.

You might not like the Endy Mattress if you:

  • Sleep on your stomach. The Endy does not offer the level of firmness you will need for supporting your hips and shoulders in this position. It is worth looking for a mattress above the medium-firm rating.
  • Are not a fan of the medium-firm feel. Some people prefer to sleep on softer or firmer mattresses, so make sure you know what you like before you buy.
  • You are a heavy side sleeper, as the Endy Mattress does not have the thickest comfort layer. This may mean you end up pressing deep into the firmer layers lower down in the mattress, which will not make for a comfortable sleep.

Unboxing And Setup

Unboxing And Setup

There is not much to learn when it comes to unboxing the Endy mattress. It will come already set up, of course, but it is rolled up inside the box a bit like a carpet. All you need to do is pull the plastic flap on the coating around the mattress, which will unseal it. Once you have unrolled the mattress, you can place it straight onto your bedframe. Endy provides its own cutting tool for removing the plastic off the mattress – just be careful you do not cut into the mattress cover.

With the plastic wrapping off, the Endy Mattress will expand naturally to its intended shape and size. Although the manufacturer says you can sleep on it right away, it is worth being aware that it may take up to a week for the mattress to reach optimum comfort.

Product Construction

Endy Mattress Construction

Endy Micro Quilted Cover

Endy Micro Quilted Cover

Designed with a quilted polyester-blend fabric (97% polyester, 3% spandex), Endy’s cover material is soft, breathable, and removable for optimal comfort. It acts as a machine-washable mattress protector, so if you want to keep it clean, you can whip it off with the rest of your bedding when you do your laundry.

2″ Endy Foam

The Endy’s top comfort layer is the softest layer of the three, allowing you to sink into it, and contouring to your shape. It is made up of the brand’s own Endy Foam, which is a unique take on the traditional memory foam that is used in most foam mattresses. This open-air cell foam is designed to be more breathable, preventing overheating. It is also a great material for pressure relief for nearly all sleeping positions.

3″ Transition Foam

Beneath the Endy Foam is the Transition Foam. This material is firmer and acts as a transition layer between the ultra-firm base layer and the softer top layer. It will also help to prevent too much sinkage when a person is lying on the top layer. Without the transition layer, it is likely that mattress users would end up experiencing a “stuck in the bed” situation.

5″ Support Foam

The base layer of the Endy is constructed from Support Foam. It is intended to give the bed its durability and help it maintain its shape. It stabilizes the whole mattress and prevents jiggling and bouncing when sleepers roll over or change positions in their sleep.

Firmness And Feel

Firmness And Feel

The Endy mattress comes in one firmness option of medium (6.5). Keep in mind that depending on your own body shape, weight, and size, you may feel firmness a little differently from your peers. However, multiple tests of the Endy have arrived at an average firmness rating between 6 and 7.

The mix of memory foam and polyfoam in the Endy helps to give it a medium-firm feel. You will sink nicely into the top comfort layer, but the middle transition layer will stop you from becoming too submerged in the mattress itself.

As for getting in and out of bed, this does not prove too difficult. Changing positions is also pretty easy, making the Endy a good choice for people who like to sleep on their sides, fronts and backs.

Edge Support

Edge Support

If you are sharing your bed with another person, it is important to think about edge support. This measures how safe you feel when you are either sitting on the edge of your mattress or lying closer to the edge. Obviously, you want to feel like you have enough room to sleep – and distance yourself from your partner! – without feeling as if you might fall off.

The edge support on the Endy Mattress could be better. When you sit near to the edge, the foam sinks beneath your weight, tipping you forwards. It does not give the most secure feeling when you are sitting down. Lying down is not much better – it feels as if you could easily roll off the mattress.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is another important factor to consider if you are sharing a bed with your partner. You are looking for a mattress that will not wobble or jiggle too much when you move or rollover; rather, it will absorb your weight and prevent your movement from reverberating across the entire mattress.

The Endy is particularly good at motion isolation. When one person lies down, sits up or gets out of bed, the motion does not transfer across to the other person. This means that light sleepers should not be disturbed by their partner moving about during the night.

Durability

The Endy Mattress has been designed and manufactured with the best foams and materials on the market. This means it is designed to last long into the future. There is a 10-year warranty in place for a reason, so it should last at a minimum of 10 years. If it does not last this long, the Endy team will replace it.

Temperature

Temperature

Something that the Endy does particularly well is temperature control. Rather than using memory foam as a material in its top comfort layer, the mattress is made up of Endy Foam, which is designed for ultimate breathability. It is common for all-foam beds to change temperature with body heat, gradually getting hotter and hotter, while Endy foam is designed to be temperature neutral. This means that it will not change temperature even if you get warmer under the covers.

Pressure Relief

One of the most important elements of a mattress is effective pressure relief. You want to make sure the mattress supports your hips, shoulders, lower back and other sensitive areas of your body.

For back sleepers, the Endy contours perfectly to a sleeper’s spine, offering some nice pressure relief without too much sinkage. For side sleepers, the Endy does put more pressure on the hips, which suggests it probably would not be the best bet for heavier bodyweights. Equally, sleepers who prefer to lie on their fronts may find the mattress too soft to sleep comfortably and without misalignment.

Off-Gassing

When you buy any new mattress, it is common for it to release certain gases and odours when you first open it up and remove its packaging. This will not cause harm to your health, but the odour might be too intense for you to sleep on your mattress immediately. Endy’s manufacturers advise taking a couple of days to let the mattress settle in.

The initial smell might be a little strong for some, especially over the first 48 hours, which is due to the compressed method of packaging. That said, the smell will only last a few days, a week at most, so there is nothing really to complain about.

Price

The Endy Mattress is priced at a good value when you compare it to mattresses of a similar design. The smallest size, the twin, costs $600, and the largest, California King, costs $875. The most popular choice is the Queen, which costs $775. The real winner here is that the California King and the King cost exactly the same price (and this does not mean the King is ridiculously overpriced, either). It makes sense to order the bigger mattress if you have the room for it!

Warranty And Returns

It is worth looking for a mattress with a good warranty and return terms, as you want to make sure you are protected if you receive a faulty product, or the mattress really is not for you. The Endy offers a very inclusive 10-year warranty, which guarantees replacement of a mattress that has defects found in fabrication.

Some of the circumstances the warranty does cover:

  • Degradation, which causes the mattress to have a visible indentation greater than one (1) inch, not associated with an improper foundation.
  • Any physical flaw in the mattress that causes foam material to split or crack, despite normal usage and proper handling.
  • Any defect or flaw in the zipper assembly of the mattress cover. Endy may decide to repair or replace the cover that wraps the Endy Mattress.

Note that the degradation of 1 inch in the mattress is unlike most mattress brands which require a much deeper indentation to qualify for a replacement.

You can also trial the Endy Mattress for 100 nights, which is a fairly standard option that most mattress providers offer. This gives you plenty of time to test the mattress and decide whether it is suitable for you.

FAQs

What kind of bed frames is the Endy compatible with?

What kind of bed frames is the Endy compatible with?

Most bed frames are suitable, but Endy recommends using the mattress on a traditional box spring or directly on a slatted base (gaps smaller than 3″) with your preferred frame. This gives the mattress enough support while still allowing it to breathe – which is particularly important if you tend to get hot in bed overnight.

How do you care for the Endy Mattress?

The manufacturer advises purchasing a mattress protector to use over the top of the Endy. This is water-resistant, so if you do spill something over your bed, the mattress will be safe from harm. You should also rotate the mattress every 3 to 6 months to maintain its integrity – but remember not to flip it over, as it has been specifically with top and bottom layers.
